Welcome to the Smutlancers! If you’re wondering what a “smutlancer” is, you’re not alone. To be completely honest, it’s a made-up word that founder, Kayla Lords, came up with when she realized a site like this needed to exist. And since it didn’t, she was going to have to make it.
What being a smutlancer means to us is that we create content about sex (mostly through writing), and we get paid to do it. Even more important, we made this our career, and we support our families with our smut-writing money.
What is a Smutlancer?
While there are plenty of excellent resources out there for writers of any topic, there isn’t a lot for anyone writing about sex. We’ve spent years reading between the lines on other writing websites because some rules are universal. But in the sex-writing world, we have extra considerations. What do you do when no one will host your website, publish your words, or give you a platform because what you write is “obscene?”
You deserve to get paid for what you do. You deserve to view your work as any other writing professional does. Here at The Smutlancers, we share all the different aspects of what it takes to get paid as a writer from who accepts pitches to how to be a professional writer and everything in between.
This space is a resource for writers to learn from each other which means sharing what we know.
Who are the Smutlancers?
Founded in 2017, the original Smutlancer was a one-woman site run by Kayla Lords. The vision she had in her head for this site could be was enormous, and she soon realized she couldn’t do it alone. A random tweet, a DM from a friend, and a collaboration and partnership were born — Molly Moore joined in to take the site to the next level. From that moment, it was no longer just “the smutlancer,” we became The Smutlancers.
