Smutlancer Revenue Report: October 2021

smutlancer revenue report for October 2021

October was a busy month in many ways. A lot going on in my personal life, some big decisions being made, new projects starting (that aren’t related to sex or kink), and a definite increase in our revenue. Overall, it was a good month, and while I might be impatient to get back to previous income levels, I won’t complain about what was accomplished this month, either.

Take a look.

Kayla Lords, Sex Writer

My freelance work is picking up in a manageable way. I’m receiving more inquiries but am also being very picky about what I agree to do. The burnout from my last big client (even though the money was good) is still with me. I don’t want to go down that path again if I can help it.

Freelance sex writing: $415.00

Self-published erotica: $14.77

Total: $429.77

Loving BDSM

As Loving BDSM, we generate revenue in multiple ways: Patreon, affiliate sales, podcast and blog sponsorships, and more. This section may change from month to month based on available revenue opportunities.

Patreon: $1,029.30

Affiliate sales: $162.49

Workbook sales: $9.98

YouTube AdSense: $36.85

Donations: $142.00

Total: $1,380.62

Although we had to take a break from creating content for part of October – when John Brownstone was hit by a car in a motorcycle accident – we didn’t lose any steam. In fact, several people reached out with offers of help. We don’t expect that kind of response, but we are humbled by it.

The Kinkery

The Kinkery is John Brownstone’s shop for his BDSM products, and I am his business partner. He makes the products, and I market the hell out of them.

Product sales: $2,347.91

We celebrated the one-year anniversary of the Kinkery this month with a sale. And we celebrated our best month of sales so far, too. We don’t expect these kinds of numbers every month, but we’ll take this as a good sign that we’re on the right track

Molly and I technically “split” this revenue. We haven’t paid ourselves yet, but we’re discussing how to change that going forward. Currently, the only income the Smutlancers produces is from our Patreon community.

Patreon: $193.72

Obscene Ideas

Again, Molly and I technically “split” the revenue from Obscene Ideas and would pay ourselves half after fees and expenses if we actually paid ourselves. But we don’t.

Total: $0

Total October 2021 Revenue: $4,352.02

Now, this is a number I like to see. I wish it represented how much we actually put in the bank account, but it’s a nice improvement over the summer months.

Let’s look at how this breaks down…

The tables turned from one month to the last with Kinkery and Loving BDSM swapping places. Both are good-looking numbers so I don’t mind at all.

Now let’s see how the year’s going. (Hint: better than it had been, thankfully.):

Is it as good as it once was? No. But does it represent progress? Absolutely!

Kayla Lords

Kayla Lords is a freelance sex writer, podcaster, blogger, all-around sex content creating human, and she really likes creating content. As a writer, she focuses on sex and kink primarily on BDSM and power exchange. She works with private clients to write their content and manage their social media, while also co-hosting two podcasts, running a YouTube channel, and managing multiple blogs. Let's just say, she stays busy and wants to keep it that way. Kayla is an international speaker and an award-winning sex blogger. She believes we are stronger together as a community than we are isolated and apart. We all deserve to get paid for the work we do, but until we understand our cumulative power, we'll all wonder if we're "the only one" doing this smutlancing thing.
