Don’t forget the try/fail cycle. With everything you publish, stats are important. What worked, what didn’t work, what can you do better next time to bring in more views, more sales, more comments?

True, and there’s an arc to it. You have to take a big picture approach to it as well – not everything you write will be a hit and not everything you publish will find an audience right away. You keep doing it anyway knowing that readers come in cycles – certain times of the year, only your die-hards are paying attention. Certain topics should still be written but only your most loyal people will read it. There’s a granular approach in the try/fail but you also need to step back and look at the overall picture of what you’re doing or trying to accomplish. Get too bogged down in the details and you might not write the thing that NEEDS to be written.

  2. Very informative Kayla. I feel like I shall need to revisit this a few times but it has got my little grey cells firing!
