My name is Kayla Lords and I am a Smutlancer. What the heck does that mean?

Well, I’m a freelance writer who writes about sex, kink, and masturbation. But, to me, the term fits anyone who writes about sex and wants to get paid for it. And maybe even make a living at it. (Shocking, right?)

What is a Smutlancer?

While there are plenty of excellent resources out there for writers of any topic, there aren’t exactly a lot for anyone writing about sex. I’ve spent years reading between the lines on websites like CopyBlogger and ProBlogger because some writing rules are universal. But in the sex-writing world, we have extra considerations like what to do when no one will host your website, publish your words, or give you a platform because what you write is “obscene.”

Eroticon, an amazing event that I think any smutlancer should attend, is one resource I highly recommend but no one else really covers the “write about sex and get paid” part. Not unless you’re an erotic author with a book to sell.

You deserve to get paid for what you do. You deserve to view your work as any other writing professional does. (And yes, that includes the anxieties that plague many of us.) Here at The Smutlancer, we’ll discuss all the different aspects of what it takes to get paid as a writer from who accepts pitches to how to be a professional writer and everything in between.

I don’t think I have all the answers, but I think this space can be a resource for writers to learn from each other which means sharing what we know. Here’s the deal I’ll make with you – I’ll tell you what I’ve learned so maybe you can avoid my mistakes. If I learn something new, I’ll tell you about it. If I find a better way, I’ll share it.

And along the way, hopefully you’ll do the same for me.

About Me

I’m a freelance writer, self published erotic author, sex blogger, and podcaster. Basically, I really like creating content. My niche is sex and kink with a focus on Dominance and submission. I’ve contributed to websites like Kinkly and Fetish.com and written for adult companies. I’m proof that you can make a living writing about sex.

I’m also a masochist babygirl submissive in a 24/7 relationship with a Daddy Dom who I always refer to as “John Brownstone” because using his first name just feels weird. I’m a speaker at Eroticon 2018 and pursuing the smutlancer career with a passion.

I believe we are stronger together as a community than we are isolated and apart. We all deserve to get paid for the work we do, but until we understand our cumulative power, we’ll all wonder if we’re “the only one” doing this smutlancing thing. You’re not alone, I promise.
